 Η μόδα είναι ένα δημοφιλές στυλ ή μια δημοφιλής πρακτική, ειδικά όσον αφορά την ένδυση, την υπόδυση, τα αξεσουαρ, το μακιγιαζ ή τα έπιπλα  καθώς και τα υφάσματα. Η μόδα υποστηρίζεται από τον καθένα με διαφορετικό τρόπο. Είναι μια διακριτή και συνεχής τάση σχετική με την εξωτερική εμφάνιση του ανθρώπου, που υιοθετείται από πολλά άτομα για κάποιο χρονικό διάστημα. Αποτελείται από τα επικρατέστερα στυλ συμπεριφοράς και τις πιο πρόσφατες δημιουργίες των σχεδιαστών υφασμάτων. Παρόλο που ορισμένες πτυχές της μόδας μπορούν να τη χαρακτηρίσουν ως ανδρική ή γυναικεία, ορισμένα στυλ είναι ανδρόγυνα .

Οι τάσεις της μόδας επηρεάζονται από πολλούς παράγοντες, μεταξύ άλλων πολιτικούς, οικονομικούς, κοινωνιολογικούς και τεχνολογικούς. Οι ειδικοί της μόδας χρησιμοποιούν πληροφορίες από την ανάλυση αυτών των παραγόντων για να προσδιορίσουν την άνοδο ή την παρακμή συγκεκριμένων τάσεων. Τον 20ό αιώνα, η βιομηχανοποίηση της παραγωγής ενδυμάτων αποτέλεσε το έναυσμα για την εμφάνιση της λεγόμενης βιομηχανίας της μόδας, ενός κλάδου που τον 21ο αιώνα είναι ιδιαίτερα παγκοσμιοποιημένος.

Σημαντικό ρόλο στην ανάπτυξη της μόδας παίζουν τα μέσα μαζικής ενημέρωσης . Η  δημοσιογραφία της μόδας  αποτελεί σημαντικό πόλο διάδοσης των στυλ. Κριτικές, οδηγίες και σχόλια μόδας αφθονούν στην τηλεόραση και σε περιοδικά, εφημερίδες, ιστότοπους μόδας κοινωνικά δίκτυα  και ιιστολόγια μόδας. Ιδιαίτερα τα τελευταία χρόνια, τα ιστολόγια μόδας και το You Tube   έχουν γίνει σημαντικά μέσα για τη διάδοση τάσεων και συμβουλών μόδας, δημιουργώντας μια διαδικτυακή κουλτούρα διαμοιρασμού των στυλ
